Making Ubuntu Useful

March 17, 2007. Ubuntu Linux has emerged as a commoner's Linux. However, even with that accomplishment, work remains to make Ubuntu truly useful. This article introduces a few links that I have found useful in setting up Ubuntu the way I like Linux to run. Naturally, this is a solution that fits me and may not work for you.

My exposure to Linux began in 1998 when I bought Mandrake and could not get it installed. My system administration skills were non-existent. I later gravitated to Gentoo in 2002, where such skills must be strong. Finally, in Fall 2006, I migrated to Ubuntu, more because I was frustrated with my Gentoo skills and Ubuntu seemed to "just work" for the desktop.

The first site you should visit is the Ubuntu Guide. This site provides most of the help to tuning Ubuntu to your needs.

Then there is the Mediabuntu site, which helps tweak the multimedia parts of Ubuntu.
